(In)-dependent

The world today is moving towards independency, individuals today want to be individuals without including other individuals in their path, acknowledging themselves as independent. Humans are well pleased to be renowned with the tag, " I'm independent ".

But in fact, human life is not designed so. Those who believe that they are independent are not growing the crops for their food, neither gathering the clouds that rain nor collecting the air for them to breathe. Of course, an individual should depend to lead their life on this planet earth.

'Our World in Date', a data research organization in one of their article stated that the rise of one-person households among adults nearly doubled in the past 50 years. It's more prominent among developed nations and the trend outspread all across the globe.

In a research article, Prof. Michael J. Rosefold from Standford University points out that it was at the onset of World War-II, the pattern of family setup began to change when adults started to move far from their families and live on their own. The freedom of being unnoticed by elders paved the way for them to choose their mates on their own irrespective of hetero or homo sex. Also in order to enjoy the freedom for a long stretch they started postponing their marriage.

Well, why do adults prefer claiming to be independent?

One reason would be the liberation they enjoy as a free-flying bird. On the other side, this reduces their concern for others around them. They set themselves free from carrying the burden of others and staying focused on self.

Recently, I captured a scene of offshore fishing where a group of people joined together to pull a fishnet. I could notice each of them striving for mutual benefit. The effort contributes to the entire team and not to an individual. When it's almost near I could see a lot of others contributing to the same cause without expecting any benefit.

Appreciation for their timely help!

Through the wisdom that God gave to Solomon, the wisest King in history said, "Two men are better than one for they will get a good reward for their labour"- Ecclesiastes 4:9. When you toil alone you may get a reward but as a team, it leads to better reward.

Yes, it's good learning to live among than to live alone. Let's be contributors rather than to be consumers. From holding back ourselves to lifting up others, may life progress.
